Beaverbrook Community Concert Series

The Beaverbrook Community Concert Series is proud to present Hypatia’s Voice, directed by Christoher Ducasse, presenting a program of choral music for the Christmas season.
This concert will take place on Saturday 28 November, 2026 at 7:00pm (please note the unusual day and time!) at Kanata United Church (33 Leacock Dr., Kanata ON).

No need for tickets: just show up! This concert is offered on a pay-what-you-can basis, with a $15 donation recommended. Check back closer to the date for more information!

Here is a bit of an introduction to the theme of this month’s program from the artists,

“Embrace the magic of the holidays with an enchanting evening of seasonal music. Hypatia’s Voice is proud to showcase brilliant Canadian talent, featuring works by Marie-Claire Saindon, Ottawa’s very own Laura Hawley, and a hauntingly beautiful Cree lullaby by Sherryl Sewepagaha. Alongside these stunning local voices, we’ll bring you beloved, atmospheric favorites by Ola Gjeilo and Eric Whitacre. Complete with cherished holiday classics and a few festive audience sing-alongs, it’s the perfect way to celebrate the season together.”

About the Artists

Founded in 2015 by internationally renowned composer Laura Hawley, Hypatia’s Voice is a vibrant, inclusive, values-driven choir for sopranos and altos based on unceded Algonquin territory (Ottawa, ON). We are a registered charity dedicated to advancing public appreciation of the arts through high-quality, accessible choral music. Under the artistic direction of Christopher Ducasse, Hypatia has become the leading upper-voice ensemble in the region. We bring together singers who share a passion for exploring new levels of artistic potential and building community; we champion underrepresented and emerging composers and artists, and present meaningful socially engaged programs. In addition to excellence and artistry, we value community and purpose and actively bring our music to underserved audiences and partner with local organizations to provide free concert tickets and promotional display opportunities to newcomers, youth, and families in need.

Originally from Port-au-Prince Haiti, Christopher Ducasse is a musician, conductor, and composer dedicated to the world of choral music. He has built a versatile career leading choirs across a wide range of ages and backgrounds.
His journey began at the Holy Trinity Music School, where he studied voice, violin, and piano. His talent led him to a coveted position in the Philharmonic Orchestra of Holy Trinity in 2007. In 2011, he became the conductor for the main choir, “Les Petits Chanteurs,” a role he held for four years.Christopher furthered his education through the BLUME HAITI Scholar program at Lawrence University, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Choral Music Education from Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, in the U.S. He obtained a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from McGill University in Montreal in 2023. In addition to his role as Artistic Director of Hypatia’s Voice, he is an esteemed conductor on the Artistic team of the Ottawa Children’s Choir. He has also worked with the Adleisia Choir in Montreal and served as an instructor and conductor at McGill University. His talents extend beyond conducting; Christopher is an accomplished composer of both vocal and instrumental pieces, with works performed by ensembles like the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, The Orpheus Choir of Toronto, and the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra.
Christopher is also a skilled pianist, violinist, and an accomplished baritone.

All of our concerts are held at Kanata United Church, 33 Leacock Drive Kanata ON. Our venue offers limited parking, with street parking
available in the surrounding neighborhood.
The venue is accessible, which includes automatic doors, a dedicated accessible washroom and no stairs required for entry.
