Emily Hou, piano

About the Artist

Emily Hou is a Korean-Canadian pianist, born in Richmond Hill, Ontario. She has performed in venues in Canada, the United States and Europe, including the National Arts Centre, Carnegie Hall and the Beethoven Haus.

Her top achievements include 1st place at the Ontario Music Festivals Association Open-Level Competition (2023), the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association-ORB Young Artist Competition (2023), the uOttawa Chamber Music Competition (2022), and the Steinway Junior Piano Competition (2020). She also received Gold-standing at the Crescendo
International Music Competition (2018).

Emily has participated in masterclasses with Angela Hewitt, Gary Graffman and Stewart Goodyear; performed at Ottawa Chamberfest, Orford Musique and Portopianofest; taught junior masterclasses at Steinway Piano Gallery Ottawa, and is featured on the website of Vincent Ho, Canadian composer and Juno nominee.

Starting her musical journey at age 5, Emily holds a diploma from the Royal
Conservatory of Music (LRCM) and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Performance from the University of Ottawa, mentored by David Jalbert. Recognized for her academics and leadership as a Dean’s List recipient and President of the music student association (ADÉMSA), she received the Faculty of Arts Award of Excellence in Studies (2022) and the Friends of NACO Distinguished Leadership Award (2023). Currently based in Montreal, she is pursuing a Master’s Degree at the University of Montreal under the guidance of Jean Saulnier and Charles Richard-Hamelin.

Emily is excited to return to her hometown of Ottawa and share her latest program in the Beaverbrook Community Concert Series!

All of our concerts are held at Kanata United Church, 33 Leacock Drive Kanata ON. Our venue offers limited parking, with street parking available in the surrounding neighborhood.
The venue is accessible, which includes automatic doors, a dedicated accessible washroom and no stairs required for entry.
